A Turlock father and son were arrested by Ceres Police on Sunday afternoon after mistreating a vendor at El Rematito Flea Market while intoxicated and later assaulting security staff members.
Police were called by security at 3:44 p.m. after they escorted Gerardo Carranza Sr., 52, and Gerardo Carranza Jr., 22, off the flea market grounds due to their alleged intoxication and treatment of a vendor. A short time later, the two re-entered the flea market and security told them to leave or police would be called. Both men became argumentative and threatened security. The son allegedly threw a beer bottle at a security officer, striking him in the ribs. As security attempted to arrest the son for assault, the father became involved with both suspects fighting staff. During the fight, the elder Carranza pulled out a screwdriver and began swinging it at security. He was eventually subdued and placed in handcuffs.
Officer Jeremy Caron placed both men under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon and trespass charges. At the jail, Gerardo Carranza Jr. was positively identified after he had provided a false name to Officer Caron. Gerardo Jr. faces an additional charge of providing a false name to a police officer.
