An 83-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle collision in Hilmar on Thursday.

The name of the deceased has not been released pending next of kin notification.

The collision happened at 8:40 a.m. Thursday at the interaction of Tegner Road and Geer Avenue in Hilmar.

The 83-year-old man was driving a Chevrolet Silverado on Tegner and had stopped at a posted stop sign at the intersection, but his truck extended beyond the limit line for the stop sign, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Dennis Joseph Miguel, 30, was driving another Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Geer Avenue and struck the driver’s side of the 83-year-old’s vehicle. Traffic on Geer Avenue does not have a posted stop sign at the intersection, according to the CHP.

The 83-year-old sustained major injuries and was rushed from the scene to Emanuel Medical Center, where he later died from his wounds.

Miguel was not injured in the collision.

The collision remains under investigation.
