Homicide suspect captured in Delhi

A man living in Delhi for the last 10 years was arrested Monday by the U.S. Marshals Service for a 2001 homicide in Phoenix.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, Marc Salinas, 38, has been identified as the prime suspect in the 2001 stabbing death of 40-year-old Rishard LaPointe in his Phoenix apartment in 2001.

Salinas and LaPointe were acquaintances, and according to the police department, Salinas left Phoenix the day after LaPointe’s death.

The cold case was reopened during fall of last year. An arrest warrant for Salinas was obtained and the U.S. Marshals Service was tasked with his capture and they were quickly able to track him to Delhi.

The arrest was made without incident and Salinas is being held at the Merced County Jail pending his extradition to Arizona.
