Man found shot to death in crashed pickup
emergency

A call initially thought to be for a solo vehicle collision in the outskirts of Turlock turned into a homicide investigation after it was discovered the lone occupant had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.

The deceased has been identified as Miguel Angel Celestino-Garcia, 30, of Atwater.

Around 3 a.m. Tuesday the California Highway Patrol received a report of a pickup truck that had crashed into a ditch at the intersection of S. Mitchell and August roads, near the Merced County line.

The CHP, fire and ambulance personnel responded to the scene and found Celestino-Garcia with at least one gunshot wound. Emergency personnel did attempt to revive Celestino-Garcia, but were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Crimes Against Person Team responded to the scene and took over the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional details and/or information should contact Detective David Hickman at (209) 525-7042.
