A 58-year-old man was hit by a car shortly before 9 p.m. Friday while walking across Lander Avenue.

The man sustained serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Russ Holeman.

The collision was in the 500 block of Lander Avenue. The man was using the crosswalk, Holeman said. The driver of the vehicle that hit the man remained at the scene and spoke with the Major Accident Investigation Team.

Speed and alcohol on the driver’s part don’t appear to be factors in the collision, Holeman said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
