Police seek Rene Salas for fatal hit and run

Turlock Police officers are seeking Rene Salas in relation to a fatal hit and run that occurred near Summerfaire Park at approximately 10:25 p.m. Thursday.

Turlock Police and Fire Department personnel responded to the 1300 block of Joett Avenue on Thursday, where they found a 46-year-old woman fatally injured and a 53-year-old man suffering from serious injuries. 

The woman and man appeared to have been out for a leisurely walk around the park when they were struck, according to Turlock Police. 

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot before police arrived. The Major Accident Investigation Team identified Salas, 49 years old from Turlock, as a person of interest in this investigation. Salas is currently being sought out for questioning regarding the collision. 

The names of the victims have not been released, pending family notification.

The police are seeking witnesses to this collision, or anyone who  has information of Salas’ whereabouts. Those with information are being asked to contact M.A.I.T. Investigator Michael Stapler at 668-5550 ext. 6683.
