Purse thief stopped by bystander
TPD

A would-be thief almost made off with a woman’s purse, but was thwarted when another woman stepped in to help.

The victim was shopping inside the Walgreens at 1591 Geer Rd. in Turlock around 11:45 p.m. Thursday when a man grabbed her purse and tried to run out the door with it, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Russ Holeman.

The victim held on to her purse and a struggle ensued between her and the suspect, until he was able to wrestle it away from her.

However, before he could get out the door, another woman stepped into his path and tried to get the purse back. The two struggled and the woman fell to the ground, but she was able to grab the purse from the suspect and pull it away from him.

The suspect ran out of the store and fled the area in a black Toyota Corolla. He was described as a black male possibly in his late teens or early 20s.

There were no injuries reported from the encounter.
