Shooting victim first homicide of the year

The Turlock Police Department recorded their first homicide for the year with the discovery of a shooting victim Thursday night.

The police department has released scant information about the shooting.

The victim has only been identified as a 26-year-old Hispanic man.

At 10:22 p.m. Thursday police officers were dispatched to the 200 block of North First Street for the report of shots fired with a man down.

The officers found the victim bleeding profusely from multiple gunshot wounds and not breathing. First aid and CPR were administered, but the victim could not be revived and was pronounced dead by the emergency personnel on scene, said Turlock Police Lt. Ron Reid.

The police department has not identified a motive behind the shooting or how many people may have been involved in the killing.

This is the first homicide to be committed in Turlock in 2010.

Investigators are actively following up leads and request that anyone with information come forward to speak with investigators.
