A Turlock Police officer spotted a stolen vehicle being driven around town Monday night, which ultimately led to an arrest for drug possession and the seizure of a gun.

Shortly before noon on Monday, an officer spotted the stolen vehicle in the 400 block of Julian Street. The vehicle had been reported stolen on Sunday from a victim of a burglary in Merced County, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Russ Holeman.

The driver of the stolen vehicle was identified as Steven Frye, 22.

The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but Frye sped off, according to the police report. However, he was located in the area very quickly and taken into custody without any further incident, Holeman said.

A search of Frye turned up narcotics and a non-operable firearm, Holeman said.

Frye was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle and drug possession.
