Teen shot during Christmas parade
emergency

As Turlock residents and visitors were enjoying the merriment of the annual Christmas parade, a 16-year-old boy was being rushed to a nearby hospital after he was shot a block from the festivities.

The injury was serious though not considered life threatening. He was rushed to Emanuel Medical Center for treatment.

The shooting happened just before 8 p.m. Friday at the intersection of N. Olive Avenue and Golden State Boulevard.

The teenager was one of a group of boys walking across Olive Avenue.

The shooter was described as a man wearing jeans and a jean jacket. He was with other people.

“Officers canvassed the area but due to the large amount of people in the area, the suspects were not located,” said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Parmley.

In a robocall to parents, Turlock Unified School District said the 16-year-old was a student at Turlock High. They urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the police department.

The shooting was not connected to the parade activities, according to a police department.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the police department at 209-688-1200.
