Thief headed to prison

A Turlock man who already had one conviction for auto theft is headed back to prison for a second conviction.Jason Lee Beck, 35, was convicted on Monday of residential burglary and auto theft. Beck also admitted a prior auto theft conviction from March 2006.According to the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office, Beck broke into a home in Modesto around 2 a.m. Oct. 23 and stole a brown purse, three watches, and keys to a 2007 Lexus Sports Utility Vehicle parked in the garage. Beck was able to enter the house through an unlocked back door. The homeowners were asleep at the time and were unaware Beck was in the house.A neighbor noticed Beck and his suspicious activity outside the house and contacted the Modesto Police Department.An officer found the stolen SUV parked a few blocks away and a witness was able to identify Beck as the suspected thief. He was located at a friend’s apartment nearby. Beck still had the victims’ personal property with him and stated that he needed to make some money so he decided to randomly burglarize a home.Beck was sentenced to five years in prison.
