A Turlock resident shot and killed a man Monday afternoon after the man tried to break into his house.

The identity of the deceased is unknown at this time.

At 1:01 p.m. Monday the Turlock Police Department responded to a reported shooting in the 300 block of N. Thor Street.

The first officers at the scene found a man with life-threatening gunshot injuries. Officers performed CPR on the man until medical personnel arrived and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Turlock Police Sgt. Stephen Webb said the initial investigation indicates the man had broken into the home and was then confronted by the armed homeowner who shot him.

The homeowner was the person who reported the shooting. He remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, said Webb.

The shooting happened just as hundreds of children and families were strolling through the downtown area to participate in the annual trick-or-treat event.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Jason Tosta at 664-7324.
