Turlock man involved in fatal collision
emergency

A collision in Jamestown on Wednesday between a Turlock driver and a Ceres motorcyclist resulted in one fatality.

The deceased was identified as Joshua Cody Boykin, 45, of Ceres.

Boykin was driving a Yamaha motorcycle westbound on Highway 120 around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, near O’Byrnes Ferry Road.

The California Highway Patrol reported Boykin moved into the eastbound lane to pass some slower moving traffic. He had passed at least one vehicle and was continuing in the eastbound lane, when another vehicle pulled into the lane.

Jeffery Smith, 25, of Turlock was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe westbound on Highway 120. According to the CHP, Smith moved into the eastbound lane to pass a slower vehicle and struck Boykin.

The force of the impact sent the Yamaha up an embankment on the east side, where it became airborne. Boykin was ejected off the motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

Smith and his passenger, Anycze Munson, 24, of Turlock, were not injured in the collision.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing. At this time the CHP does not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.
