The Turlock Police Department arrested a man on multiple felony charges including false imprisonment and robbery after keeping his ex-girlfriend trapped at a motel and stealing her car.

The incident first came to the attention of the Turlock Police Department when a witness reported seeing a suspected carjacking, around midnight on Saturday in the 4600 block of Golden State Boulevard.

The witness said he heard a woman scream for help and then saw her being pushed into the back of a gray Toyota Camry, which then sped away from the area.

The police issued a be-on-the-lookout for the vehicle, but it was not spotted.

On Monday a woman came to the police department and said her ex-boyfriend had forced her to drive him from Oakdale to Turlock on Saturday and that he had been holding her at a motel in the 200 block of S. Walnut Road.

The victim said he assaulted her, took her money and refused to give her back her car keys. He then left the motel in her car, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Russ Holeman.

Officers were able to locate the woman’s vehicle and took the driver, Spencer Smith, into custody on suspicion of false imprisonment, robbery and felony domestic violence.
