Stanislaus announces new faculty

CSU Stanislaus will welcome 31 new full-time faculty members this school year, 22 of those appointments coming in tenured or tenure track positions.
"Full time faculty appointments are central to maintaining and advancing the highest quality education to our students and therefore are our number one priority," said CSU Stanislaus President Hamid Shirvani.
According to the university, the new hires fill high-need positions, and were selected through competitive national search processes.
The new hires include: Elvin A. Aleman, assistant professor of Chemistry; S. Steve Arounsack, assistant professor of Anthropology; Augustine Avwunudiogba, assistant professor of Geography; Benjamin Boren, lecturer in Music; Jennifer Cooper, lecturer in Biological Sciences; Daniel Deisenroth, assistant professor of Economics; Susan Eastham, assistant professor of Kinesiology; Michael Paul Fleming, assistant professor of Biology Education; Zac Gershberg, lecturer in Communication Studies; S. Christine Gonzales, assistant professor of Liberal Studies; Jeneva Gularte-Rinaldo, assistant professor of Nursing; Karen Hartman, assistant professor of Communication Studies; Sheryl Hurner, lecturer in Communication Studies; Jennifer Johnson, lecturer in Social Work; David Kangas, assistant professor of Philosophy; Keith Brenden Kelly, assistant professor of Music; Kristopher Kohler, lecturer in Sociology; Kimy Liu, assistant professor of Advanced Studies; Jose Nunez, lecturer in Child Development; Katie Olivant, assistant professor of Liberal Studies; Elenie Opffer, assistant professor of Communication Studies; Diana Orem, assistant professor of Psychology; Brent Powell, assistant professor of Kinesiology; Tomas D. Rodriguez, assistant professor of Sociology; Staci Scheiwiller, assistant professor of Modern Art History; Daniel Soodjinda, assistant professor of Liberal Studies; Gke Soydemir, Foster Farms Endowed Chair of Business Economics; Jennifer Strangfeld, lecturer in Sociology; Gerard C. Wellman, assistant professor of Public Administration; Steven Wood, assistant professor of Criminal Justice; and, Yanhong Wu, lecturer in Mathematics.
The new appointments come despite financial hardships at the university, which recently led to cutbacks of non-teaching employees. Earlier this month 11 CSU Stanislaus classified employees were laid off or saw hours cut, two temporary, contract employees were released, and 10 other contract employees were not reappointed.
