Boots off for good cause

Turlock Firefighters Local 2434 members donned their helmets, fire resistant pants and signature suspenders on Saturday — but put their boots in hand instead of foot to raise funds for a worthy cause.

The annual Fill the Boot campaign saw firefighters ask for passersby on the corner of Monte Vista Avenue and Countryside Drive to contribute funds for the Random Acts of Kindness program. The program donates money to numerous local charities and nonprofits such as the Turlock Unified School District and Turlock Christmas Parade.

Firefighters brought the heat on Saturday and collected $9,991.
