Members of Calvary Baptist Church celebrated the harvest season a little early with their first annual Giant Pumpkin Day.
Half a dozen extremely large Atlantic Giant Pumpkins donned the church’s front lawn on Sunday, while families took turns taking pictures and playing pumpkin bowling. The enormous pumpkins were grown by multiple members of the congregation. The community gardening project was the brainchild of Calvary Baptist Associate Pastor Jim Schultz. Schultz came to the church last summer from Michigan and brought the seeds with him.
The church hopes to continue the Giant Pumpkin Day celebration next year and invites any community member who is interested to come by and get a seed to plant. The church is located at 700 E. Monte Vista Ave. in Turlock. The phone number to the church office is 632-2391.
