Monica and James Woods accepted a check from American Legion Rex Ish Post 88 and the American Legion Riders on Sunday. The money will help with medical expenses for their baby boy Tanner, who was born with multiple heart defects in December. Monica Woods said that Tanner is finally home after six weeks of hospital stays and open heart surgery.

“He is doing very well. It’s kind of a day-by-day thing, but he is home now,” Woods said.

The American Legion and the Woods family hosted a tri-tip fundraiser to raise money for Tanner’s medical expenses. About 1,000 people showed up to the event, more than volunteers were expecting.

“It turned into a huge community event. We are really thankful to everyone,” Monica Woods said.

The fundraiser raised almost $5,000 for Tanner.  Family member Penny Shabazian said that the family is still taking community donations on Tanner’s behalf and Wells Fargo bank account was set up specifically for the cause.
