History of Business: Making customized metal decorations for the home, local business Rustic Metal Designs provides countless items from metal crosses, to monogram lettering and even handmade glittered metal reindeer just in time for the holidays.
Owned and operated by husband and wife Matt and Candace Gonsalves, Rustic Metal Designs is a family-owned small business that was first established in 2010.
The couple first started their business adventure as a way to put their creative minds to a physical form, resulting in customized metal home décor that is all hand – and locally – made.
As a skilled craftsman, Matt Gonsalves has been welding and working with metal since 2000, bringing years worth of knowledge to help create timeless pieces alongside Candace’s creativity. Together, Matt and Candace handcraft letters, personalized gifts and much more and are continually accepting custom orders.
Matt begins each project by hand cutting the metal with a plasma cutter out of a flat piece of a 16 gauge metal sheet. Each piece is then sanded before spraying the finished produce in a flat durable paint specifically made for metal surfaces. His wife, Candace, then uses her creativity to make each item unique by hand painting it or even using glitter to make things sparkle.
With the combination of his experience and skill in metal, and Candace’s crafty touch, Matt says that the two are proud of all of their unique designs.
Orders can be made either by phone or email, and many of their holiday product and handcrafted items can be found in local shop Vintage Market, located downtown at 210 E. Main Street.
