The small community of Denair will soon play host to thousands as the annual Farm and Family Festival comes to town this weekend.

The Denair Farm and Family Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, along the town’s main thoroughfares, N. Gratton Road and Santa Fe Avenue.

“It just gets everybody to go to Denair,” said event chairman James Shehan. “We’re not just a little town east of Turlock, we are a people who have a lot going on.”

The festivities will kick off at 9 a.m. with the popular parade, which will feature vintage tractors and other types of farm equipment, as well as vehicles from the Denair Fire Department. Headlining the parade will be the antique steam tractor from Bay Area organization Kinetic Steam Works. Also along for the ride will be this year’s participants of the Little Miss Denair pageant.

Numerous events, like a watermelon eating contest, a milk chugging competition, pedal tractor races, and homemade ice cream workshops will take place.

Shehan said this year features a lot of new craft and food vendors, expanded exhibits in the agricultural education area, including the petting zoo offered by local FFA and 4-H students. The Kids’ Zone will be back with inflatables and other fun activities.

The Denair Fire Department is also hosting its annual Deep Pit BBQ from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $20 a person and include their famous Deep Pit beef roast, beans, salad, bread, and a cookie. Drive-thru, take out, or dine in are available.
