The investigation into the shooting death of a 17-year-old Turlock resident continues as his family makes funeral arrangements for the young man.

The deceased was identified as Richard Lee Short III.

Short was fatally shot Monday evening in the 300 block of Mitchell Avenue.

Turlock Police officers found Short outside a home and began CPR on him until paramedics arrived and transported him to an area hospital, where he died from the gunshot wound.

At this time there is no suspect information.

Family member Tiffany Gonzales started a GoFundMe page to assist the family with funeral expenses and recalled him as “an amazing young man.”

“Richard, also known as Bubba among his closest family or Rich Lee to his closest friends had a smile that would light up a room. Richard could do anything he put his mind to from football to rapping he gave it his all,” Gonzales wrote on the page.

Short left the Turlock Unified School District in December 2017 to attend the Denair Charter Academy.

Gonzales said Short was the youngest of three children and that his sisters Delicia and Christina were profoundly stricken by the loss of their brother.

“His sisters were his everything,” Gonzales wrote. “The roar of laughter when they were together was contagious. From inside jokes to pulling pranks on each other the bond was undeniable.”
