Funeral services set for fallen deputy, CSO
officers

The funeral services for the two Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department employees killed in a fiery collision will be open to the community.

The investigation into the collision that claimed the lives of Deputy Jason Garner and Community Service Officer Raschel Johnson on Saturday is being conducted by the California Highway Patrol and is ongoing.

Garner’s funeral service is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at CrossPoint Community Church at 1301 12th Street in Modesto.

Johnson’s service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at The House Church at 1601 Coffee Road in Modesto.

For both services the sheriff’s department advises people arrive early because parking is limited at both locations.

Garner had been with the sheriff’s department for nine years and six months, while Johnson had put in 15 years and five months at the department, with the last eight years as a Community Service Officer. She had recently been promoted to a lead training CSO and had transferred from Patterson, according to the sheriff’s department.

Garner is survived by his wife and four children. Johnson is survived by her mother and father and three children.

The collision happened just after 8 a.m. Saturday near an intersection at Crows Landing Road and Seventh Street. The pair were responding to a report of a burglary that had already occurred when the crash occurred. Investigators are looking at surveillance footage from a neighboring business that showed the patrol car traveling at a high rate of speed just prior to the accident.

Memorial funds for the deputy and the CSO have been established. To donate to Garner’s fund people can do so in person at any West America Bank branch to the Jason Garner Memorial Fund (Account # 0219055860).
