As part of the Stanislaus County – Golden State Improvement Intersection Project, the intersection of Golf Road and Golden State Boulevard will be closed for approximately three weeks starting on Thursday. Crews will be performing roadway rehabilitation on Golf Road and S. First Street and complete final paving throughout the project area with the goal to be complete at the end of November, weather permitting.
The county advises drivers to proceed with caution and follow posted detours:
- Golf Road detour: E Linwood Avenue to Lander Avenue to W F Street and return to Golden State Boulevard.
- Local and emergency access will be maintained throughout construction.
- Motel Access: During this stage, access will be limited to the southernmost driveway only. Please plan accordingly.
The railroad crossing closure will continue until further notice at the Golden State Boulevard/Gold Road and Paulson Road/Berkeley Avenue intersections.
Stanislaus County aims to reduce collisions, ease traffic flow, and enhance overall driver safety with the Golden State Improvement Intersection Project by:
- Adding a traffic signal to the intersection of Golden State Boulevard and Golf Road.
- Upgrading the Paulson Road and South Berkeley Avenue intersection with traffic signals and lane widening. All traffic signals will be coordinated with railroad traffic to reduce delays and improve safety.
- Adding a new right-in/right-out intersection and raised concrete median, limiting left turns for northbound access from Golf Road to South 1st Street.
- Adding U-turns at the new signalized Golf Road intersection to provide access to northbound South 1st Street from Golf Road. A separate right-in/right-out access to Golden State Boulevard from South 1st Street will also be added.
This project is funded by local, state, and federal sources, including federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality funds, federal Regional Surface Transportation Program, local match from Stanislaus County Roads fund, and the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 (SB 1 - “Gas Tax”).
Project milestones, traffic impacts, and other important project information will be regularly updated on the project website www.scroads.org.
