Ambitious is definitely a word that can be used to describe the folks over at West Coast Sourdough at 3210 W. Monte Vista Ave., as they are approaching their goal of opening 100 locations in California. As the brand continues to rapidly expand and experience fast-growing popularity, owner Pardeep Singh took a step back to realize one thing: The Turlock location hasn’t had an official grand opening since they began operations back in November.
That will all change this weekend, as the sandwich shop will be hosting a weekend of deals and prizes.
“We had three or four locations open at the same time last year, and there was a lot going on and we opened up in a bit of a rush, so we never had a chance to do a grand opening,” explained Singh. “So now, we’re coming around to it and as one of many franchises, we’ve worked with the main company to finally set a date.”
On Saturday, the first 100 guests will receive a free sandwich of choice. After that, the next 100 guests will receive a free cookie. Following the first 200 customers, sandwiches will be buy-one-get-one throughout the remainder of the weekend. All customers are also encouraged to take photos at the grand opening days and post on Instagram tagging @WCSourdoughCA for a chance to win an iPad Air and free sandwiches for the year (one free sandwich per month for 12 months).
“We’ve advertised and sent out coupons, but we still get people from Turlock coming in and say that they didn’t know we were here, maybe because we haven’t had a grand opening event, so maybe this can help,” Singh said.
As the word surrounding West Coast Sourdough’s opening continues to spread, Singh and his team have recognized one thing: most people who have been coming in and trying the food for the first time have been coming back.
“People seem to really be enjoying the food, which is our goal,” Singh said. “The bread is baked fresh every few minutes, we slice our meats every day, we chop our veggies fresh as well and all of our ingredients are from California farms, which we’re very proud of and I feel makes a big difference.”
In the five months since the business opened their doors on Turlock, Singh has noticed that the most popular sandwiches have been their turkey subs, as well as their French dip roast beef sandwiches. As for their soups, he has seen their clam chowder become a hit with customers. Singh explained that their salads also saw a peak in popularity during this year’s first quarter, as the healthier option was ordered heavily amid New Year’s resolutions.
Singh emphasized that the quality of food at the Turlock location is consistent at all West Coast Sourdough shops across the board in California. The shop offers 4-inch, 6-inch and 8-inch sandwiches with gluten free options available as well. Some soups are also only available on certain days of the week. As a predominately new restaurant in Turlock that expects an uptick in customers following the weekend’s grand opening festivities, Singh encouraged feedback.
“We want to connect with the community because we’re a part of the community now here in Turlock,” he said. “We already have the customers who are regulars now, which we appreciate so much, and for those who are trying us for the first time, let us know what you like, but definitely let us know how we can improve. Customer service in our number one priority and we want to be sure we offer the best experience here in Turlock.”
