Pedestrian killed crossing West Main Street
emergency

A 71-year-old woman was killed when she was struck by a car while crossing W. Main Street.

The name of the deceased has not been released, pending next of kin notification.

The collision happened just after 10 p.m. Saturday night in the 1600 block of W. Main Street.

The woman was crossing W. Main Street near the Burger King. She had crossed the two lanes and the turn lane when she was struck by a vehicle headed westbound, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Parmley.

The driver stopped at the scene and later told officers she did not see the woman until she was too close to successfully stop.

The woman was struck with the front of the 2005 Toyota sedan and sustained life-threatening injuries. She was transported to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.

The police department’s Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene for the ensuing investigation.

Drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor in this collision, Parmley said.

The roadway was closed for approximately five hours.
