The Force Awakens at local libraries ushering in holiday fun

Along with the traditional winter craft fun, this December local libraries will be hosting Star Wars Day and celebrating National Cupcake Day.

Turlock

At Family Craft Day from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, families can choose from a variety of craft ideas to create including snowmen porch blocks, recipe holders and reindeer message holders.

Turlock Teens Talk Books will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday. Join fellow bibliophiles for a book discussion on your most recent read.

Learn how to create snowflakes out of paper and popsicle sticks at 4 p.m. Dec. 8. Make a snowflake to take home and then make some to decorate the Children's Room at the library.

Celebrate the upcoming theatrical release of "Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens" with crafts and activities including making Yoda ears and Princess Leia hair buns at 4 p.m. Dec. 15.

The Kids Book Club will meet at 4 p.m. Dec. 16 to discuss and share recent reads. This group is recommended for kids in grades 4 through 8.

Stop by the Turlock Library from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 15 and speak with a local certified enrollment agent to learn about Covered California and to get one-on-one help with the enrollment process.

The Ten Days of Winter Break will begin Dec. 21, with a different activity featured each day to promote children's imagination and creativity.

LEGO Day will be held at 4 p.m. Dec. 22 Children ages 4 and up can stop by the library to make unique LEGO displays for the library. LEGO play helps children develop fine motor skills.

Family Game Day at the Turlock Library will be held at 4 p.m. Dec. 29. A variety of classic board games will be available to play.

Denair

Get crafty at 1 p.m. Dec. 10 and make holiday gift tags and winter bookmarks. All supplies will be provided.

Celebrate all things Star Wars at the Denair Library at 3 p.m. Dec. 17. Several activity stations will be set up throughout the library, featuring crafts based on the popular movies.

The Kids Book Club will be held at 4 p.m. Dec. 30. Children in grades 4-8 are encouraged to bring a book that have recently read for a discussion.

Celebrate New Year's a little early at the Denair Library. Party hats, noisemakers and snacks will be provided at noon Dec. 31.

Keyes

Preschool story time featuring new and classic picture books, flannel board and puppet stories, finger plays, music and dancing will be held at 11:45 a.m. Dec. 7.

Make cute Critters Crafts like penguins, snowmen, mice and reindeer using paper plates at 1 p.m. Dec. 9.

Children are invited to make snowmen ornaments using tea lights at 3 p.m. Dec. 10. Supplies are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Celebrate National Cupcake Day at 10 a.m. Dec. 15 by learning how to make a cupcake in a mug at the library.

The Keyes Library will celebrate Star Wars at 1 p.m. Dec. 16 with a find and seek game, foam light sabers and pins commemorating the popular film series. Participants are welcome to come in costume, however, costumes are not required.

LEGO Day will be held at 3 p.m. Dec. 17. Children ages 4 and up can stop by the library to make unique LEGO creations that will be displayed in the library.
