After three consecutive days of over 90-degree heat, the weather is expected to finally cool off — but not that much.
An approaching weather system from the Gulf of Alaska will knock down the ridge over the weekend,
with notably cooler, near normal high temperatures, according to the National Weather Service. This means mainly mid to upper 80s for the Valley, Delta and lower foothills.
Relative humidities remain low in the Valley and, combined along with gusty winds, will bring a few hours of elevated fire concerns in the Valley.
While the temperatures will get back to normal, it will still be hot enough this weekend to take advantage of Turlock’s recreational swim options and its two splash pads.
The newly renovated Columbia Pool, 600 Columbia Ave., will be open for recreational swim from 12 noon to 5 p.m. today and Sunday and from 12:30 p.m. to 2:20 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
The Pitman High School pool, 2525 Christoffersen Parkway, is open for rec swim from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
The Turlock High School pool, 1600 E. Canal Dr., is open for public rec swim from 12:30 p.m. to 2:20 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
New this year, all participants must have completed Recreational Swim Waiver before entry to the pools. It can be found online at or at the pool entrance.
Admission for the city pools is $3 for adults and $1 for youth up to 17.
The City of Turlock has two splash pads — one at Broadway Park, 501 N. Broadway and one at Columbia Park, 600 Columbia Ave. They are both open from 12 noon to 7 p.m. every day through Sept. 1. A mobile aquatic chair is available upon request. Please call (209) 668-5594 in advance to make arrangements for use.
Admission to the splash pads is free for everyone.
