Stanislaus County Fair’s PRCA Rodeo full of close contests

Dozens of cowboys and cowgirls took to the FoodMaxx Arena at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds in Turlock on Friday for professional rodeo action. Sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, a total of $20,450 was paid out to participants across seven events.

Zane George, 20, of La Grange took home the title of all-around cowboy after taking part in steer wrestling and claiming a big win alongside Oakdale's Mason Hicks in the team roping competition. George and Hicks combined to rope a steer in just 5.4 seconds, beating out the runner-up grouping of Tanner Kent and Monty Joe Petska by 1.4 seconds.

Barrel racing and tie-down roping were also tightly-contested.

Madison Camozzi of Petaluma was victorious in barrel racing with a time of 15.12 seconds, edging out Ruby Lightfoot by 0.02 seconds, the closest contest of the evening.

The tie-down roping contest was won by Turlock’s own Lane Wheeler, who corralled his calf in 9.8 seconds, besting Jason Andersen’s mark of 10.1 seconds.

In steer wrestling, James Banister of San Luis Obispo wrangled his steer in 5.2 seconds, just 0.9 seconds quicker than second-place Hayden Webb.

Three individuals qualified in saddle bronc riding. Jasper Frost of Brown’s Valley led the way with 78.5 points, followed by Caden Grisedale (74) and Riggin Smith (73).

Eric Novoa of Vacaville was the lone bull rider of the day. He earned 89 points for his efforts atop the highly-regarded Booker’s Bandit, raised by All In Pro Rodeo.
