A truckload of food was delivered Thursday to the United Samaritans Foundation in Turlock, where it will be distributed among three local nonprofits serving people experiencing homelessness or food insecurity.

The donation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints included 12 pallets — approximately 20,000 pounds — of food. The supplies will be shared with United Samaritans, the Turlock Gospel Mission and the Stanislaus State Warrior Food Pantry.

The United Samaritans deliver food to people in need and facilitate services to help them transition to a better quality of life. Services include its mobile food truck program that makes stops across Stanislaus County to serve free meals, as well as an emergency food box program.

The Turlock Gospel Mission provides meals for unhoused individuals and those with food insecurity or on a fixed income and find themselves in need of supplemental meals. Some meals are designated for those who are staying at the organization’s shelter or participating in restoration programs.

The Warrior Food Pantry at Stan State provides free perishable and non-perishable food items and other daily essentials to campus community members. Students can visit once per week and collect up to 10 items per visit. Students can also participate in the campus Food Distribution program, which hands out free boxes of food twice a month.

Volunteers from all three organizations, along with members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, gathered at United Samaritans to help unload and sort the shipment, which included canned and dried foods for extended shelf life.
