While Melissa Ahlem has a background in education and worked at local grief support organization Jessica’s House for nine years, she’s always loved fashion. Ahlem has taken that passion for fashion and opened a new boutique in downtown Turlock — Matilija Moon.

“I felt led to do something new and fresh, and just took a leap of faith and really followed God and trusted that what was next for me was meant to be. I've always loved creating different styles based on seasons or just trying different styles out,” said Ahlem.

“I started thinking and praying over what was next for me, just knowing it wasn't going to be teaching anymore, and then just following signs from God and thinking about it and processing it all. I just kept seeing little signs, little nuggets, and I just was like, you know what? If I'm not brave now, when will I be? So, if you have a dream, just follow it,” said Ahlem to the friends, family and community members who celebrated the boutique’s grand opening on Oct. 14.

Matilija Moon Boutique offers men’s and women’s fashions, unique finds, and more.

“On behalf of the city, we are happy that you're taking the opportunity to go somewhere different and try something different, and opening a boutique,” said Mayor Amy Bublak.
