Stanislaus State will once again invite students, alumni and the public to celebrate Día de Muertos — Day of the Dead — with a community event from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at 226 N. First St. in Turlock.

Día de Muertos is a Mexican tradition honoring and celebrating the lives of loved ones who have passed away. Through colorful altars, flowers, food and cherished memories, families and communities celebrate life, culture and the enduring connections between generations.

The university’s 12th annual event will start with workshops, in both English and Spanish, on family constellation and dealing with loss and meditation and sound bath experience. These workshops will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and require preregistration at: https://bit.ly/4eWnpP0

Arts, crafts and face painting will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The main program will begin at 5:30 p.m. with opening remarks, followed by an Aztec Blessing at 5:40 p.m., remarks from Stan State President Britt Rios-Ellis at 6 p.m., a performance by Los Luceros at 6:15 p.m., a performance from students in the ETHS/THEA class at 6:30 p.m., an art exhibit presentation by Victor Escoto at 6:45 p.m., a presentation on the student and community altars by Ethnic Studies students, a vigil at 7:25 p.m., sound bath reflection at 7:40 p.m. and a “say their name” closing ceremony at 7:50 p.m.
