The Turlock Chaplaincy will hold their seventh annual Fun Run at 9 a.m. April 9. The run, which is sponsored by Off Center Thrift and Gift, will begin and end at Denair Park on E. Main Street in Turlock.

The Chaplaincy is a non-profit organization that offers support to first responders and their families by providing spiritual and emotional counseling to all persons in the Turlock community following critical incidents. The organization trains and provides chaplains to the Turlock Police and Fire Departments. They have also recently added chaplains in Turlock schools to help children who have recently lost a loved one or may feel isolated.

“Chaplains will go to a school, maybe take a football and toss it around with a kid whose chin may be hanging low,” said Chaplaincy Board Member Larry Chalupnik. “All it takes is one person to be there for that kid who may be suffering, so this program is huge.”

According to Chalupnik, Hilmar and Denair schools have recently shown interest in developing chaplaincy programs, which is something that the Turlock Chaplaincy is eager to help them achieve.

All proceeds from the race will benefit the Chaplaincy by providing funds for chaplain training programs, chaplain uniforms, and any other items or needs the organization may have.

To run in the one mile race, it is $10 to pre-register and $15 to register on the day of the race, and the 5k or 10k is $25 to pre-register and $30 to register on the day of the race. Runners of all fitness levels are encouraged to participate and all finishers will receive a medal.
