The Humanity, Kindness & Love Foundation is expecting up to 50 people to participate in their walk on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Donnelly Park.

The global nonprofit has organized similar walks – dedicated to encouraging people to bring more humility, kindness, and love into their communities – in 17 different countries. Last month, an HKL walk was held in Fresno’s Tower District at Trolley Park, with another one planned for San Leandro. Saturday’s event is the first in Turlock.

“We plan to continue holding these community walks on a monthly basis moving forward, creating an ongoing opportunity for people in Turlock to come together and spread kindness throughout the community,” said Kirat Brar, a project manager for the foundation. “The walks will be an opportunity for members of the community to come together around a simple message: choosing humility, kindness, and love in our everyday interactions.”

During the upcoming walk, HKL volunteers will be passing out flowers and inspirational kindness cards to people along the route, intended to brighten someone's day and encourage others to pass kindness forward.

The HKL Global Movement began in November 2024 at Sri Harmandir Sahib (the Golden Temple) in Amritsar, India, where leaders from different walks of life gathered around a shared vision of creating positive change beginning with the individual. The movement is centered on awakening the qualities of humility, kindness, and love that already exist within every human being, according to Brar. The movement has members and participants in nearly 100 countries and has brought people together through seven international conferences.

During the walks, volunteers connect with people in the community and share small gestures of kindness, such as giving out flowers and inspirational kindness cards, with the hope of brightening someone's day and encouraging kindness to spread from one person to another.

“HKL walks grow organically through relationships and community connections,” said Brar. “As we connect with individuals, community organizations, humanitarians, and others who resonate with the message, these relationships develop, and conversations naturally lead to opportunities to bring people together through HKL walks and other meaningful community events.”

The foundation’s seventh annual International HKL Conference took place Aug. 8 in Mississauga, Canada.
