History of business:

Wednesday may be the first day of business for Turlock’s new Habit Burger Grill, but the burger stop has been hard at work since Friday afternoon ensuring staff is ready to serve the community with four special giveaways.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday, The Habit Burger Grill welcomed the first 200 customers of the day with a free meal, and according to District Manager Maria Everhart, Turlock is the perfect fit for the restaurant’s newest location.

“I don’t say this at all of the openings, but I’ve met some of the most amazing people here already,” said Everhart. “While we were giving milkshakes away, customers were hugging us and writing notes on napkins. It’s a very nice, salt-of-the-earth community.”

The Habit Burger Grill is well known for its signature burger, the Charburger, which is made of fresh ground beef chargrilled over an open flame. Grilled onions, fresh tomato and other condiments top off what Everhart describes as the menu’s “best item.”

“It basically personifies everything we have,” she said.

The menu doesn’t stop at burgers, however. Sandwiches like the Albacore Tuna Filet and Chicken Club are popular items, said Everhart, as well as the restaurant’s freshly chopped salads, like the Grilled Chicken Caesar and Santa Barbara Cobb.

“Everything is fresh,” said Everhart. “No bags, no can openers.”

While the location’s freshness is one staple customers are sure to love, what really sets The Habit Burger Grill apart from other burger joints in town can be summed up in one word: hospitality.

“We have a designated hospitality attendant out in the dining room during peak hours, asking specifically, ‘How was your salad?’ ‘Can I refill your drink?’ ‘Can I get you more ranch dressing?’” said Everhart. “When you come into a Habit when it’s busy, it really sets us apart from other places.”

Everhart added that The Habit Burger Grill is seeking charity opportunities in the Turlock community, and encouraged organizations like school groups, sports teams and reading programs to apply online. Fundraisers at the restaurant donate 20 percent of all proceeds to the charity participating, said Everhart.

“It’s a great way for us to build our business, but we really like to give back to the schools and the community as well,” she said.

Already, Everhart has seen that The Habit Burger Grill is a perfect fit within the Turlock community.

“I think we bring a certain specialness to the community, because we set ourselves apart from all of these other burger places,” she said.
