A 22-year-old man was killed in a solo vehicle collision early Sunday on West Main Street in Turlock.

The deceased was identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as Ernesto Santana Jr., 22 of Delhi.

The collision happened around 12:15 a.m. Sunday.

Santana was driving a sedan eastbound on West Main Street at a high-rate of speed, according to the Turlock Police Department.

As Santana approached the intersection with West Avenue South he struck a concrete island causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle then collided with a telephone pole, sheering the pole from its base. The vehicle continued moving, striking a concrete wall, causing the vehicle to overturn and land in the intersection of West Main Street and Farr Street. The driver was partially ejected from the vehicle and was declared deceased on scene.

It is believed that alcohol was a contributing factor to this collision. The deceased was the only occupant of the vehicle.

Santana was engaged to be married and was the father of a two-year-old girl. He worked at Central Valley Automotive. A GoFundMe account has been set up to help cover funeral expenses. It can be found at https://www.gofundme.com/f/wjsrbp-funeral-costs-and-financial-help.
