World War II veteran and Pearl Harbor attack survivor Herb Miller was presented a commendation by Stanislaus County Supervisor Terry Withrow for his service to the country during a Veterans Advisory Commission meeting held Monday in Turlock.

Miller is a resident of Covenant Village in Turlock and recently celebrated his 100th birthday.

Monday's meeting was the first time the Stanislaus County Veterans Advisory Commission has met in Turlock. The commission routinely meets once a month, usually in Modesto, and advises the Board of Supervisors on matters pertaining to veterans.

During the meeting, Commissioner Wardee Bruce encouraged local veterans to get involved and join one of the Commissions subcommittees on facilities, education and job placement, outreach or transportation.
