The Turlock Concert Association is closing out their 2018-19 season with a performance from the Golden West Winds on May 18, and while the curtain falls on one season, the organization is gearing up for the next with a subscription drive and a search for new Board members.

The Golden West Winds is part of the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West from Travis Air Force Base. Comprised of flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn and bassoon, this ensemble entertains at musical events ranging from military ceremonies and patriotic shows to educational programs and recitals of original works for woodwind quintet. The Golden West Winds plays music of all styles including marches, jazz and classical music. Their “Americana” show is suitable for any audience.

The show is set for May 18 at the Turlock Community Theatre. This show has free admission. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show will start at 7 p.m.

TCA will be launching its 80th season soon and is marking it with a subscription drive. Season subscription is about half the cost of tickets to our five concerts separately at $25 each and season subscribers are also admitted free to concerts at our sister concert associations in Modesto, Lodi, and elsewhere.

The 2019-20 season will feature: the Brazilian-American duo Monica Dasilva and Chad Alger on Sept. 21; vintage American pop musician Adam Swanson on Jan. 24, 2020; Composer and violinist Adam DeGraff on Feb. 15, 2020; the Latin Jazz Orchestra Orquesta Dharma on March 19, 2020; and jazz musicians the Commanders on May 23, 2020.

Subscription prices are $60 for adults through May 31 and $65 after. A family subscription (two adults plus children) is $130 through May 31 and $140 after. One-adult family subscription prices are $70 through May 31 and $75 after. A student subscription is $35 through May 31 and $40 after.

The non-profit Turlock Concert Association has brought local, national, and international live entertainment to Turlock area audiences and music education to local schools since 1940, through the work of the all-volunteer Board members. TCA presents five concerts of live music per year to annual ticket subscribers and buyers of individual concert tickets and sponsors two in-school music education programs free to schools and students.

Board members must be subscribers, however, the bylaws allow the Board to give a free season subscription to full-time students who volunteer significant service to TCA. A student volunteer granted a free subscription qualifies for election to the Board.

Operating a non-profit organization requires a variety of knowledge and skills. TCA would especially appreciate the efforts of anyone who wants to learn and gain experience, or who has experience, in an area such as marketing/sales, fundraising, publicity/communications, or technology/social media. TCA could also use a coordinator between performers, venues, and the association. Any sincere and dependable level of effort would be appreciated, along with attendance at most Board meetings.

TCA Board members vote in choosing performers for the season.
