Al Padilla, 75, of Turlock, passed away at Alexander Cohen Hospice House on Aug. 6 after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Hanford to Nazario and Soledad Padilla. He spent most of his growing up years in Mexico City before moving to Chicago. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 through 1963. After his discharge from the Navy, he started working with the Owens Corning Fiberglass Company where he worked as a quality control supervisor. He was married to Carol (Anderson) Padilla. They lived in San Jose and moved to Tumwater, Wash. when he retired in 1994 after 35 years with Owens Corning Fiberglass. His wife Carol preceded him in death in June 2000. The next year he moved to Turlock.
Al was a fun-loving guy who loved camping, fishing, and dancing. He especially loved sun-bathing. When the family got together, they enjoyed playing poker and he was known to enjoy playing practical jokes on people.
Alfred is survived by daughters, Jorja Smith of San Jose, Donna (Tracy) Ariza of Hilmar, Cheri Polugar of Turlock and Maria (James) Weaver of Turlock; a number of brothers and sisters; 12 grandchildren; and siblings, Eva Ibarraran, Rosemary Reed, and Roberto Padilla. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Martha Padilla, Hector Padilla and Maria Esperanza Padilla.
Visitation for Alfred will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Thursday, Aug. 12 at Allen Mortuary. A Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 12 at All Saints Catholic Church, 4040 McKenna Dr., Turlock. Memorial contributions may be considered for Alexander Cohen Hospice House c/o Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356.
