Betty Moosekian, 98, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Turlock after a long and fruitful life. Her lively spirit and famous sense of humor will be deeply missed by all.

Betty was born in Turlock to Vaughn and Arshaluce Azhderian in her family’s home on North Broadway. In 1949 she married Shawn Moosekian of Boston, who died in 2000 following 50 years of marriage. Betty was deeply proud of her family’s farming legacy, which was established by her father in 1915. Marking the 100th anniversary of its founding this year, it was managed for several decades by her husband, Shawn, and is today managed by their son, Berj, who continues the farming operation in Los Banos.

Betty was a highly accomplished and creative homemaker and mother in the best sense, who loved life, her family, dogs, sweets, and travel.  She volunteered for the Emanuel Medical Center Auxiliary, was a member of the Frugals investment club, and was active in a stitchery club. She was recognized by the Turlock Chamber of Commerce at Turlock’s Centennial Celebration in 2008.

Mrs. Moosekian is survived by three sons, all of whom were raised in Turlock.  They are Vahan (Karen) and Shaun Duke (Kathryn), who reside in Los Angeles, and Berj (DeeDee) of Turlock. She also leaves six grandchildren, Chelsea, Shaun Duke, Jr., and Stafford Moosekian, Adriana, Marisa, and Ara Moosekian, and two step-grandchildren, Sarah (Jeremy) Eden and David (Megan) Fairbank.

The family would like to gratefully thank Val Bettencourt, whose dedication, care, and good cooking extended Betty’s life by years.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Fri., Dec. 4, at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd., Turlock.  Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon on Sat., Dec. 5, at the same location.  Interment will follow at Turlock Memorial Park.

All are welcome to attend a reception immediately following to celebrate Betty’s amazing life at On Broadway, 153 S. Broadway, Turlock.

Memorial donations may be made to Carnegie Arts Center, 250 N. Broadway, Turlock, CA 95380 or Covenant Hospice, 1850 Colorado Ave., Turlock, CA 95382.
