Betty J. Ashbaugh, 78, of East Moline, formerly of Pennsylvania and California, passed away Wednesday July 4, 2018 at her home. 

A Celebration of Life will be held from 6:00PM-8:00PM Saturday July 21, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 4800 Kennedy Dr., East Moline. Cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of memorials or flowers, the family requests that condolences or a favorite memory of Betty may be shared at www.vanhoe.com. 

Betty was born March 10, 1940 in Latrobe, PA a daughter of Samuel and Malinda (Fry) Harkness. She married the love of her life, Philip Ashbaugh Jr., in Pennsylvania in 1958. He passed away in March of 2013 in California. 

She was a lifelong homemaker with her 6 children. She and her husband loved the ocean, especially the Pacific. She also enjoyed collecting knick-knacks such as collectible turtles or frogs, crafting, going to casinos, and butter pecan ice cream. She was very kind, loving, and greatly enjoyed helping people. She loved her family, animals, and all children everywhere. 

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in East Moline. 

Betty is survived by 6 children: Terry (Brenda) Ashbaugh of Pinehurst, NC, Bruce (Chris) Ashbaugh of Newman, CA, Debra (Rick) Scott of East Moline, Joy Ashbaugh of Manchester, IA, Philip (Jennifer) Ashbaugh III of Delhi, CA; and Scott (Penny) Ashbaugh of Turlock, CA; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings: Mary Louise “Wease” Peer of Latrobe, PA, Cindy (Regis) Beacon of FL; and Samuel (Denise) Harkness Jr., and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband.
