A memorial and burial service for Dallas E. Smith will be conducted, at graveside, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 18 under the direction of the Turlock Memorial Park.

Mr. Smith, who died Monday, June 6, was born in Brentwood, Calif. to William and Marguerite Smith on March 30, 1919.

After his parents passed away, while a young adult, Dallas and his sister, Pauline, lived with their Uncle Arthur Smith – a long time Turlock resident and employee of its water department.

Dallas later moved to San Jose, Calif. and worked for the T.M. Wright Printing Company prior to, and after graduating from, San Jose High School.

Dallas Married Veva Birnbaum in Campbell, Calif. May 12, 1940, and they were married for 52 years until Veva’s passing in 1993 – living in San Jose, San Francisco, Palo Alto, and Woodside before retiring to Grass Valley, Calif. In 1995, he formed a special, loving relationship with Ruth Armstrong, of Grass Valley, and they were together until his death.

Dallas, a passionate graphics and commercial artist, attended University of Santa Clara night school before completing his education at the now known San Francisco Art Institute, while employed by the Southern Pacific Railroad to work a night shift. Once graduated, he secured the position of art director for the Schlage Lock company of San Francisco. He later earned a highly distinguished leadership role as their advertising manager and national accounts manager before retirement. He was very proud to be a deacon of the Woodside Village Church as well.

Mr. Smith is survived by his son, Lee Smith of Tucson, Ariz.; and grandchildren, Douglas Smith of Elk Grove, Calif., Jessica Smith of New York, N.Y. and Jenna Smith of San Francisco.
