Douglas Lee, age 52, passed away after a brief illness in Aptos, CA.  A native of Turlock, Doug was a 1980 graduate of Turlock High, and received his BS degree in Geology from Stanislaus State University.

Doug was a Registered Geologist with a 27-year career in the field of Environmental Consulting, starting as a driller after college and most recently as a Senior Professional Geologist for Gettler-Ryan, Inc. in Dublin, CA.

An avid sailor, Doug enjoyed his time on the waters of Lake Tahoe and San Francisco Bay, sailing out of the St. Francis Yacht Club.  He participated in a series of races during Antigua Race Week in the Caribbean, which his crew won in 2001.  In 2002, he completed the Pacific Cup race from San Francisco to Hawaii on the Santa Cruz 50 boat “Expeditious”.  Later, he was a key member of the crew that won the Express 37 Season Championship in 2005 and 2006, and the Big Boat Series/National Championship in 2007 and 2008.

Enthusiastic, quick-witted and fun-loving, Doug was the perfect combination:  a dependable friend and the life of the party.  Doug was always a ready participant in the activities of family and friends. He was a great help during the early days of the family’s winery business, a loving caregiver during his father’s final years, and the most vocal cheerleader at numerous sporting events and graduations involving his nieces and nephew.   He enjoyed sports and was an active supporter of the Giants, Warriors, and Forty-Niners.

Doug was predeceased by his parents, Leroy D. Lee and Elizabeth J. Lee, and brother David J. Lee.  Survivors include sister Jane Lee of New York, brother Dan Lee (Donna) of Salinas, CA, nieces Annie Lee and Jackie Lee, and nephew Joshua Lee, who will all miss him dearly.  A celebration of life will be held at Turlock Memorial Park on Saturday, October 4th at 2PM.

In memory of Doug, a donation can be made to the SPCA for Monterey County. spcamc.org
