Joe V. Silveira, 82, of Newman, passed away Saturday at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m., followed by a rosary and funeral mass at 10 a.m., on Oct. 8 at the Shrine of Our Lady of Miracles in Gustine. Interment to follow at Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman.
Mr. Silveira was a native of Norte Pequeno, Sao Jorge, Azores Islands and a resident of Newman for 19 years. He previously resided in Gustine. He was a parishioner of the Shrine of Our Lady of Miracles in Gustine and was a dairy worker for 24 years in the Gustine and Newman areas. He was a member of the Nossa Senhora da Fatima (Our Lady of Fatima) Society of Los Banos, the UPEC and he enjoyed gardening, sports and he loved animals.
Mr. Silveira is survived by his loving wife, Maria Fatima Silveira of Newman; sons, Helio Silveira of Newman, Joe V. Silveira, Jr. of Newman, Rick Silveira of Turlock; daughters, Sara Lindo of Hilmar, Melanie Ann Mello of Gustine; brothers, Aries Do Santos of Dixon, Silverio Do Santos of Oakdale; sisters, Sarafina Ramos of Illinois, Lidail Nunes of Dixon, Filomena Ramos of Crows Landing; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Manuel Silveira.
