Josey passed away at age 100 with her daughters and caretaker at her side. Teresa’s Tender Loving Care had been a wonderful home for her since September, 2013.

Josephine Louise Kuchler was born on March 17th 1914 in Ramersberg, Switzerland to Franz and Rosa Kuchler-Imfeld.  Her parents died in 1917 and she was adopted by cousin/godfather Nikolaus and Josephine Kuchler-Kuchler and grew up in Sarnen, Switzerland.  She had a total of 13 siblings and was the last living one. She attended Sarnen Grammar School for 7 years.  She worked in Switzerland as a waitress, nanny for her sister Agnes, and a seamstress.  She also went house to house to making clothing for families.

She met Joseph Omlin at a dance, married and came to El Monte, California on their honeymoon in 1938 on an Italian ship.  They bought a grade B dairy in Turlock in 1946.  Josey also worked at the Gemperle Egg Plant for 15 years.  She was nominated as Senior Citizen of the year in 2002 for her work volunteering in the Sacred Heart Thrift shop and delivering Meals on Wheels. She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Widowers Club.  

She was a member of Sacred Heart church in Turlock, and most recently attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Modesto.  She was and active member and volunteered in the kitchen at the San Joaquin Valley Swiss Club.  She has two children:  Josie Fernandes ( Richard ) and Maggie Cartwright.  She has 3 grandchildren: Kathy Fernandes (Sue), Donnie Fernandes (Alta), and Christopher Cartwright (Katherine), 8 grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Omlin and grandchild Karen Mott D.C.

She was a loving mother and will be deeply missed.  We will have memories of her playing with great grandchild until age 98.  She was a devote Catholic and prayed the rosary every day.

Services: Viewing at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist, Turlock 95380 on Sunday, April 27 4-6pm, followed by rosary at 6:00 pm.  Funeral Mass at 10:00 am Monday, April 28th at St. Joseph’s Church, 1813 Oakdale Road, Modesto, 95355.  Burial at 2:00 pm at Turlock Memorial Park 575 N. Soderquist, Turlock, 95380
