Louise Clara Coelho, 88, passed peacefully at her home on March 16, 2021 after a long illness.
Louise was born on July 7, 1932 to Thomas and Mary (Lemos) Marques in Gustine, California. After graduating from Turlock High School and working at the old Carr’s Cleaners for a bit, she met and married Joe L. Coelho. They were married for 64 years until he passed away March 17, 2017. Not only did they start a family, they also built a community, showing care and generosity to friends, neighbors and customers. Louise and Joe enjoyed a close circle of true friends who cared for each other, whether at home in Turlock, laughing and joking their way to games aboard the 49er bus, or travelling the world together.
Louise had a passion for the arts. She put her own hand to ceramics, oil and watercolor paintings, and many, many years to sewing and quilting. Louise gifted friends and family with her handiwork, and began a special tradition of giving quilts to her grandchildren for high school graduation and to her great-grandchildren upon their birth. And Christmas! She did love Christmas. Year round there were always small Christmas trees bearing lights and ornaments to be found tucked around the house. Louise loved family and friends and was most at home with a cup of tea and some of those dear ones with her at the kitchen table.
Louise is survived by 8 of her 9 children; Anne Coelho (Isoke Femi), Michael Coelho (Judy), Stephen Coelho (Carol), Veronica Hemphill (Bob), Christopher Coelho (Kim), Alan Coelho, Mary Kelly (John), and Patricia Ashman. She is also survived by her sister MaryAnn Segars, her daughter-in-law Mary Coelho, as well as 23 grandchildren; Jessica DePrimo (Matt Perazzo), Elizabeth DePrimo (Justin Burrill), Amelia DePrimo (Brandon Wells), Eric Coelho (Amanda), Sarah Webster (Levi), Bethany Anderson (Marc), Peter Coelho and Michal Ann Coelho, Catherine Riley (Wesley), Abigail Coelho, Madeline Coelho, Dustin Hemphill (Heidi), Benjamin Hemphill (Amber), Margaret Smith (Justin), Frankie Nottingham (Illisa Humphreys), Christopher Coelho (Patti), Joseph Ryan Coelho, Alison Brasil (Danny), Natalie Hermanson (Marc), Katie Kelly, Louise Ashman, Willie Ashman and Keisha Ashman. She also leaves 31 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Joe, Louise was preceded in death by her beloved son Dominic Coelho and grandson Dominic Coelho, Jr.
Services will be held privately for family. Donations can be made in her name to Sacred Heart Preschool, 1225 Cooper Ave., Turlock, CA 95380.
