Mamie Lee Long, 85, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at Evergreen Convalescent Hospital where she had been residing for the last year. Her husband, Norman, preceded her in death last May. They were married for 43 years.  
Mamie and Norman spent their life together working in the dairy business. They owned the Long Dairy in Hilmar. Mamie also worked for Gemperlee Egg Processing Plant for over 30 years. She was a hard- working and devoted employee.
Mamie was born on May 1, 1924 in Bishop to George and Elsie Johnson. She was raised most of her life in Mariposa and in the 50s moved to Merced and later to the Turlock and Hilmar area.
Mamie enjoyed gardening and had a magnificent garden all year round. Her other hobbies were crocheting, needle point and embroidering. She won awards in these areas throughout the years.
Mamie is survived by her son, John Chapman and his wife, Carol, of Merced; her daughter, Virginia and her husband, Richard, Festa of Modesto; and daughter, Jeanette Chapman of Turlock. She leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Mamie is also survived by her sisters, Mary Masasso of Merced and Virginia Scott of Mariposa; brother, William Johnson of Wisconsin; and Betty Long of Arizona.
Mamie gave of her time and love to her family and friends. She had a great spirit; she never complained no matter how bad it got. She was a very hard and devoted worker, she had a smile for everyone and her family will never forget her beautiful blue eyes.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23 at North Hilmar Cemetery followed by a reception at 12 p.m. at the Crossroads Church on Arbor and Johnson Roads in Turlock.
