Margie Couchman, beloved mother of five, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at the age of 85.

Margie was born November 17, 1935 in Neosho Missouri to Warda and Dora Taylor. She was her parents fourth of six children. Margie loved her southwest Missouri roots – the open space to roam, the farmlands, bluegrass music, and her many friendships. Her love of playing sports (basketball, volleyball,) began here too.

Her parents moved the family to Modesto, California in 1952, the summer before her senior year. Margie graduated from Modesto High School in 1953.

Making her way to the bay area, Margie worked as a teller at Bank of America in downtown San Francisco. In 1955 she married Charles Couchman and began her journey as wife and mother. After 11 years of marriage the two divorced and Margie went on to raise their five children in Turlock. With her accounting and organizational skills she was able to make a full time career in administrative work and bookkeeping while striving to never miss one of her kids ball games or wrestling matches. In her later years she opened the successful Miss Margie’s Daycare. She retired at 73.

Her love of sports and music continued throughout her life. She played city league volleyball and sang in her church quartet for many years.

Margie began attending the Turlock Church of Christ in 1964. She came from a long line of faith and was guided by these beliefs to help her through the struggles of life and being a single mom.

Margie was a bright, passionate, fun loving, and spiritual woman. She loved to laugh and sing and was devoted to her role as a mother and a child of God. In her life Margie stood for strength, honesty, dignity, grace, humility and faith, and in her passing moments, she died as she had lived.
