Mary S. Costa

February 1924 - Nov. 3, 2010

Mary S. Costa passed away peacefully at home with family and friends at her bedside on Nov. 3.  Mary was born in Tulare in 1924 to Camillo and Rosalina Sousa.

She is survived by her children Loretta Menshew (Al), Manuel Costa, Marlene Amesquita (David) and Dianne Thornberry; four grandsons, David Amesquita, Jr., Evo Costa, Jacob Thornberry, Joey Costa; one granddaughter, Kayla Thornberry; and one sister, Isaltina Ribeiro.

She was preceded in death by her son Joe and her husband of 50 years, Evo.

Mary went to the Azores when she was five years old and returned to the United States at age 25 with husband Evo.  They were in the dairy business until they retired in 1991 and moved to Turlock 16 years ago.  She very much enjoyed retirement and the time to travel and raise a garden and flowers at her new home in Turlock.  Mary always kept her sense of humor and enjoyed a joke on herself or someone else.  She had that right up until the last few days of her life.  Mary Costa lived a long, productive life and will be missed by all who knew her.  However, the wonderful memories of her will always be with us.  Her values of honesty and hard work live on in her children and grandchildren, so she is not really gone.

A viewing will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 12 at Allen’s Mortuary in Turlock, concluding with a Rosary at 7 p.m.  Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov.  13 at All Saints Catholic Church, Turlock. Remembrances, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Hospice of Emanuel Hospital, Turlock, P.O. Box 819005, Turlock, CA 95381.
