Mr. William Bradford Shelton, age 81, of Glencoe, Kentucky formerly of Madison, Indiana entered this life on February 21, 1937 in Saluda, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late James and Blanche Smith Shelton. He was inducted into the United States Air Force and rose to the rate of staff sergeant, and was honorably discharged on February 28, 1964 at Castle AFB in California receiving the Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, Special Operations Group Award, and other numerous awards in his 9 years of active duty. Bill was united in marriage on July 15, 1955 to Joyce Richardson. This union was blessed with a son, Michael and daughters, Pam and Terrie. Bill made his home in Turlock, California serving on the fire crew at SharpeArmy Depot in Lathrop, California; later moving back to Southern Indiana in 1974 to serve as fire chief at the Jefferson Proving Ground (JPG), retiring in 1987. He was united in marriage to Lois Jean Baker on April 29, 1969 in Reno, Nevada. This union was blessed with a son, Chris. Bill enjoyed spending his time in the great outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed hunting for ginseng root, mushrooms, searching for arrowheads, and playing bingo. After retirement he resided back in California then New Albany and in 1992 he purchased his home in Glencoe and resided there until his death. Bill died on Friday, March 9, 2018, at 1:55 a.m. at his residence in Glencoe, Kentucky surrounded by his family. Bill will be missed by his loving companion, Luisa Scholz of Glencoe, Kentucky; his loving sons, Michael Shelton of Palo Alto, California, and Chris Shelton and his wife, Melissa of Madison, Indiana; his loving daughters, Pam Shelton of Liverpool, New York, and Terrie King and her husband, Larry of Turlock, California; his loving grandchildren, Aaron King, Melodie Shelton, Adam King, Emilie Coufal, McKenzie Coufal, Eric Shelton, and Karisa Shelton; his beloved great grandchildren, Ryan and Raegan King; his loving brothers, Printis Shelton of Madison, Indiana, and Danny Shelton and his wife, Treva of Hanover, Indiana; his loving sisters, Belva Tingle of Madison, Indiana, Betty Thorne of Madison, Indiana, Ruth Short of Madison, Indiana, Libby Russell Quiggle of Madison, Indiana, and Bonita Jones of Warsaw, Kentucky; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, James on March 7, 1971 and Blanch Smith Shelton on September 2, 2007, his brothers, Richard Shelton died, March 14, 1990, Donald Shelton died June 5, 1993, George Shelton died July 5, 2004, and James Shelton, and his sister, Nadine Manning died May 14, 2005. Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 12, 2018 at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana with full military honors will be performed by the United States Air Force Ceremonial Unit and the Jefferson Post No. 9 of the American Legion.
