Reverend Oren Geiger entered Heaven at the age of 94; he was born in Kankakee County Illinois and moved to Visalia California at the age of two.  Oren graduated from Springfield Lutheran Seminary in Illinois in 1945 and was ordained in Pittsburg California that same year where he served Grace Lutheran Church for 9 years.  He came to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in 1954 where he served for 30 years before retiring in 1984.  He was honored as Pastor Emeritus in 1990.
In addition to his church work he was involved in many community groups.  He served as President of Rotary and was honored by the club as a Paul Harris Fellow.  He managed a Championship Babe Ruth team and an All-Star Babe Ruth team which took second place in Northern California.  Serving twelve years on the Board of Emanuel Medical Center was a privilege for him. Pastor Geiger’s love for Good Shepherd and Turlock continued after his retirement.  He remained active in the church by preaching occasionally and helping with communion.  He also taught a bible study class up to six months ago.  He appreciated living and raising his family in Turlock.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Davenport and his nurse Debbie who have provided loving care for Dad over the years, Provident Care for taking care of Dad for the last year and Hospice of Emanuel for helping him during his final hours.  Oren is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lucille; sister Beverly (Carl) Berg, brother Dr. Robert (Dorothy) Geiger, brother in-law Richard Engebrecht; children: David (Stephanie) Geiger, Susan (Kori) Prier, Richard (Yvonne) Geiger, Robert (Patsy) Geiger; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren with another one on the way.  He was preceded in death by his sister Larue Hellenthal, infant daughter Karen and infant great-grandson Kaden. There will be a visitation on Tuesday August 20th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Turlock Memorial Park.  A Public Burial Service, also at Turlock Memorial Park, will be held on Wednesday August 21st at 9:30 a.m. followed by a service at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church 640 N. Minaret, Turlock CA 95380.
